Hmm, Sarah aged 66 still with James, seems to give an indication which church they married scratched out?

If that's the correct James marrying Jane Higginson, and his occupation does seem very similar, I think the marriage fell apart.  there are no more Gandy children mmn Higginson after Annie b 1872.

1891 sees John and Annie Gandy lodging with a John and Jane Potter and their children, whose mmn just happens to be Higginson!  Jane is 40 on that census, but 34 on 1881 (as Jane Potter) which fits Jane Gandy nee Higginson.
