1880 US census for Samuel Gray
« on: Monday 30 October 17 05:53 GMT (UK) »
Some time ago I found Samuel Gray a boarder, aged 24 an engineer, living with Thomas Pascoe and family also William Fielder.
I have written down "Inhabitants in Allen mine (Rockaway) in the County of Morris,New Jersey." Dopey me has not written down the link or taken a copy of the entry.  Help please, would like to see it again.  Samuel was born 1827 in Cornwall to Thomas and Eliza (nee Skewes).  He died in Queensland, Australia in 1931. Thomas Pascoe's wife was born in North Carolina and the children born in New Jersey. Advice would be great when convenient.
Gray, Madigan, Purdy, Churchwood.

Many thanks for the link, I had a good look at others from the same place and noted the large numbers of Cornish names living close by. No doubt about the Cornish they travelled everywhere on our globe to work in a mine or two.
Cheers

It is surprising how far all in the UK were prepared to travel for work in those times and earlier.   :)
