Edward Mortimer Brick Wall

Hi, I have been trying to get further back in my ancestry but currently I have hit a brick wall. Well, it's been a brick wall for some years actually.

I have traced my Mortimer line back to Edward Mortimer born 1777. I do not know where he was born or who his parents were. What I do know is that he married Miriam James in Avebury in 1798 and they had 8 children - George 1798, Anne 1809, Thomas 1809, John 1811, Mary 1814, Richard 1816, Charles 1821, and Edward 1824. They lived in Mildenhall (Minal) where Edward died in 1835.

At one point in my research, I believed that my Edward was the son of Joseph Mortimer and Frances Green of Trowbridge but after further research I discovered that wasn't the case as their Edward was in the Dragoon Guards, away abroad whilst the kids of my Edward were born but also their Edward died abroad in 1851. So that wrote that one off.

I then wondered if he was related to the Mortimers from Avebury. There are two families having children there at the time Edward was born and he would fit in nicely to those. All their children were baptised though so seems a bit odd that they wouldn't baptise Edward if he were one of theirs.

I could really use some pointers and assistance with this.

Have you followed the 1776 birth in Orcheston to see if he is yours?
Parents William Mortimer and Mary North. They marry Orcheston St Mary’s 1775.

This Edward MORTIMER ch.1776 of Orcheston St George, is the brother of my Ann MORTIMER.  When their parents married the year before, his father was of St George while Mary was of St Mary.

I don't know any more than this.

I was aware of an Edward Mortimer baptised 1773 in Orcheston St George which I was able to discount given he married and had children there and was on 1851 census.

As for the one baptised 1776 to William and Mary. I was aware that he had two siblings - James and Jane but I didn't know of Ann. I cannot find this Edward on 1841 or 1851 census so would have died by then I guess. I cannot find a marriage or a burial for this Edward either. So there is a possibility that this Edward is our Edward. But how can I confirm for definite?

The only baptism for an Edward in 1773 that I can see is for Ogbourne St George, not Orcheston St George?! 

Looking at this Edward in my tree, your Mildenhall death does come up as a possibility.

Oops sorry. You are right g - Ogbourne for the 1773 Edward. I often get those confused.

Out of interest, have you had your DNA tested? If so, do you have it on rematch? We could compare to see if we are related.

I have had my DNA tested with Ancestry.  I don't know what rematch is.

I meant to type gedmatch but my device autocorrected. Sorry about that. My test is with Ancestry too but you can download your raw dna data and upload it to gedmatch. You can then match it with a specific person which is quite a cool feature. But if you're on Ancestry then in theory if we are connected, we should come up on there. I should come up as S.M (administered by CyrilMortimer1).

I cant see you as a match on Ancestry?!?!?!  And yes, I have put my raw data on gedmatch but have never really used it.
