Mystery cruise ship in Leith, c.1960s
« on: Monday 30 October 17 11:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone put a name to this vessel at Leith Docks?  It looks too modern (maybe built around 1955) to be any of the older usual suspects - Uganda, Nevasa, Devonia, etc., and it's certainly not the Canberra.

Thanks.

Could she be MV DUNERA which conducted educational cruises to the Baltic area dovetailing  nicely with Leith.

EDIT: Viewed a selection of DUNERA photographs and it isn't she. However, I'd hang my hat on educational cruising.

New info - the photo is not earlier than 1963.

I was thinking of a more modern vessel than the Dunera - something like the Funchal (built 1961).

FUNCHAL appears very similar to original photo; two derricks fore and aft, single funnel with similar markings, single mast stepped aft atop bridge.
