2 surnames from a 1570 will
« on: Monday 30 October 17 14:04 GMT (UK) »
Little bit of help needed

Extract 1, line 2
John Edwarde ad Thomas Edward and William [??] my daughters children equally amongst

Extract 2, line 2
unto Anne [??] my daughters childe, etc. Anne is a sister to William above.

Line 5 right hand side Henrie [??] and to Johanne his wife - I think this one may be Ausley but ready to be corrected.

thanks

Edward

The first two, I think, are DREWE.

Henrie could be AUSLEY, or else ANSLEY. Looking at the document, it's almost impossible to distinguish between 'u' and 'n'.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

The last is: Anstey

ADDED:

Arthur is correct regarding the first two.

The reason I thought ANSLEY/AUSLEY rather than ANSTEY was that while the writer's letter 't' does have the same curl at the top, it doesn't have a loop in it like the 'l' does.

Also, the crossing in a 't' which also joins it to the following letter seems to be a bit higher than the joining line from an 'l'. This one looks to me to be in the lower position.

(Edward's latest post arrived while I was typing, so maybe I was right  ;))
