« on: Wednesday 01 November 17 00:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi Members - I am trying to find out some information for a friend on Driver James Russell Anderson 322285 who appears to have served with 21 company Inland Water Transport unit Royal Engineers - as a loco driver - on discharge he lived in Wishaw Scotland - his birth year shows as 1887 - survived the war - I have looked at War Records site and Ancestry but can't find him listed on either of these sites -Any assistance please

About 70% of WW1 records were destroyed during the Blitz.
As there's no medal card for him indicates he didn't serve overseas.

Thanks Jim for your prompt reply

I think the same as you James being home based - The lad who ask me is the grandson - he gave me James Russell Anderson's Certificate of ID on his discharge saying he was discharged on 16th Feb 1919 through 2 Dispersal Unit Shorncliffe - this gave me quite a bit of info - the address for pay was 34 Alexander Street Wishaw Scotland - the fact he was a Loco Driver - with 21 Company - Born in 1887 - his unit home reporting base was Richborough (Kent) - he enlisted 23 Feb 1917 and was married - I searched Ancestry and War sites but no luck - but thank you for your reply and hopefully someone might have a link where I can help his Grandson out

If you try the Great War Forum, link below, somebody will probably be able to tell you about 21 Company IWT, Royal Engineers.  Quite a lot of research has been done on the smaller railway units.
