A question on text found in some wills
« on: Wednesday 01 November 17 12:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello there

I have recently got some wills from Cornwall during the period between 1700 and 1780

All three of them have text referring to 'beds performed' and one to a 'bed close'.  In one of them in addition to the 'beds performed' are some 'bedsteads' which is confusing me further

Can anyone please tell me what this means?

Many thanks!

This link gives some wills in Devon with 'beds performed' - meaning  including pillows, curtains, valances etc
https://archive.org/stream/devonshirewillsc00wortiala/devonshirewillsc00wortiala_djvu.txt
1 featherbed performed withe pillyows and courtyans and vallans of silke and
I long cushion of Tynsell, 2 short cushions, and I longe cushion
of armes of myne workinge."

A 'bed close' may be like a 4 poster bed - ie 'enclosed'.
It would be helpful to see the actual part of the will.
It may mean bed 'clothes'!

Have you seen this site? http://www.opc-cornwall.org
There are some wills already transcribed on it, and looks like lots of useful information.
