Aldington marriage 1673
« on: Wednesday 01 November 17 18:38 GMT (UK) »
On Family Search there is a marriage of Thomas Simmons and Jane Miller 20/4/1673. My KFHS cd only goes back to 1681, so can anyone help with the details of this couple. Particularly interested in where Thomas Simmons came from or was he otp?
Thanks in advance

Thomas doesn't appear to be from Aldington (that I can see). There are "Millers" in Aldington but not a "Jane". It doesn't help that her birth might have happened during the interregnum. I can't find any suitable nearby Janes..

If Thomas lived to a ripe old age maybe this is his will?
Will   Simmons   Thomas   High Halden   1747   1755   PRC/17/95/102   PRC/16/421 S/9   OW&C   1755

Boulding Boulden Bollyng (all - mostly Kent)
Finch (Kent - Henry & Elizabeth (Fossett)  Finch m1687  London)
Foord (Kent - Aldington, Stanford area)
Philpot (Kent - Alexander Philpot died 1601 Ashford)
Waggon/Waghorn (Kent pre 1715)
Rose (Kent)

This one has got me stumped. When couples married in a parish they had no connection to, you would think it was because they married by licence, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I can only assume that the FS entry has been transcribed incorrectly, so more detective work is required!
Many thanks for your thoughts and I will have a look at High Halden.

The marriage, according to the BTs held at Canterbury Cathedral, took place as found on Family Search.  It does not appear on the filmed copy of Aldington's Parish Register.  Nor do any records between 1672 and 1677!

Hi Tony,
Thanks for your info, it seems that the original PRs have been lost. With reference to David's message, Jane may have been a widow, ergo no baptism in that name, so I may have to look for a Jane who married a Miller and then a burial for the husband. There doesn't seem to be any other Thomas and Jane marriages that would fit into my family as I have been eliminating them as much as is possible.
Thanks again for your time,
PtE
