The next mystery in the continuing saga of the Cook family involves John Cook. He was born 12 May 1886 in Lowwaters Hamilton Lanarkshire, the son of John Cook and Catherine Gardiner.
In 1901 he was a "boy under detention" on the "Empress", an industrial training ship.
He fought in WW1 in France. In 1919 he was living at 38 Holm St Govan.
He never married but had two children with Elizabeth Anderson, born about 1890, the daughter of James Anderson and Elizabeth Cunningham. They were William, born 9 January 1913 Govan and Elizabeth born 2 September 1914.
Elizabeth died on 20 March 1920, falling from the third storey of their house. John was charged with assaulting his wife and causing her to fall to her death - reported in the "Aberdeen Journal" on 23 March 1920.
The "Sunday Post" on 28 March 1920 reported he appeared in court for the third time and was remitted to the Sheriff but I can't find any mention of him going to prison or what happened to the children.
