James & Margaret (gibson) Edmonston's children born in Barony 1770s
« on: Friday 03 November 17 07:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have only managed to find one child, Charles born in 1788, it says he is the seventh child. I think I have tried every option, even  searching for any Edmonston and variations of that name Scotland wide.

Any help appreciated.

Scottish PO Directories
http://www.nls.uk/family-history/directories/post-office

I checked the Edinburgh directory from 1773 onwards for Edmonstone (just used the key "edmon"). There's a James Edmonstone as early as the 1773 Directory.
A Colonel James Edmonstone arrives on the scene 1784.

I can see James Edmonstone, writer, Chrichton-dean, between 1763 and 1778 in the Scottish newspapers

Also a number of families called Edmonston ( and variants) lived in Cambuslang.

There are 36 death entries between 1731 and 1850 and most males mentioned  ( son or father)were called James, John, Robert and Charles

I can also see that one man named Charles Edmonston was married to Margaret Winning
This man died in 1840 followed by his wife in 1847.
This woman appears at 1841 aged 65yrs therefore born somewhere between 1771 and 1781

Bronwen,
How warm is it in Christchurch ?
I leave for 3 week tour of NZ on Wednesday.
Arrive in Auckland on Friday and fly out from Christchurch at the end of the month.
I think I may have packed too many "warm" clothes. LOL

Hi Anne
Someone said they attached smething, but I cannot see what they attached, possibly you Anne.
I have all those Cambulslang people tracked down, because I was looking at them and then discovered they weren't the right family, well I don't think they are.  I have also seen  the Margaret Winning marriage perhaps I need to explore that more, I will look into what you have sent me thanks.  Have sent you a private message message about the weather, pretty cold today.

Bronwen,  this Col Edmonstone will be one of the toffs of which we spoke! The Edmondstone's of Duntreath are landowners north of Glasgow, a daughter of that house a Mrs Keppel was a mistress of Edward VII so not exactly collier stock?

Skoosh.
