I found the marriage between Robert Kidd and Martha Briggs in 1907 and obviously there is a problem here, because the Kidd/Edgeway children births were from 1909/1919.

Why do you think this is a problem?

I am sure that you are right as Martha Mary was born Edgeway and married as Martha Mary Briggs. The query I have is that I have never found children born with mothers maiden name instead of widowed name.

Robert Kidd 30 married Martha Mary Briggs, widow 28 on 30/1/1907 Bermondsey.    He was son of John Kidd, sailor (deceased) and she was dau. of John Edgeway, Weigher.

She had first married Edward Briggs 25/5/1896 Walworth.

Daughter from 1st marriage Mary Ann Briggs shown with mmn Edgeway on GRO Index in 1900.

Their index also shows an Elizabeth in 1904 (died?) but I cannot find birth entries for Martha and Rachael.

Really?!

The relevant info on the GRO Index Search states "Mother's Maiden Name"; as does FreeBMD for births from 1912 on.
I have never seen a birth under widowed name
