Thanks for that this history is so complicated but that is what I thought he was. I am trying to eliminate candidates.

My original search was for a James Forshaw birth circa of 1789 a blacksmith but I think Richard the surgeon's father was Richard Forshaw blacksmith and Mary Coppell nee Lyons .  He also had a brother James born in 1789 baptised at St John's Old Haymarket, Liverpool but he died in 1791 and the name James used again in 1795 but he also died.  So now I am thinking he may have sold the Blacksmiths to my James Forshaw probably a relative somewhere along the line. ??? ??? ???

My James Forshaw was a blacksmith in the same area and died in 1835 and was buried at St John's Old Haymarket, Liverpool aged 46 years so a birth of circa 1789. If I could only find this James it's so frustrating.

Thanks for getting back at least I can eliminate him now Eileen

Not saying this is your man but there is a baptism on Lancs opc for a James Forshaw 2 October 1789 St John, Liverpool. His parents are Richard Forshaw, occupation Blacksmith, and Mary.

Just had a look at Gore's Liverpool Directory for 1825 nd the only blacksmith is John Forshaw of 4 Brown Street. There is a James Forshaw who is a Cooper at 52 Mersey Street.

Just got your last post I thought that was the James I was looking for 1789 at St John's Liverpool parent's Richard and Mary these are the details.

Baptism: 2 Oct 1789 St John, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
James Forshaw - Son of Richard Forshaw & Mary, his wife
Born: 15? Apr 1789
Abode: Dale Street
Occupation: Black Smith
Register: Baptisms 1785 - 1800, Page 8, Entry 25
Source: LDS Film 1656195

but then I found this

Burial: 1 Apr 1791 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancs.
James Forshaw - son of Richard Forshaw
Abode: Dale Street
Occupation: Black-smith
Register: Burials 1788 - 1792, Page 139, Entry 31
Source: LDS Film 93913

Richard and Mary went on to have another son who they named James in 1795 but he also died in 1795.  He too was buried at St Peter's as was Richard and Mary.

They also had a son Richard who was baptised in 1781 this is who I thought was the surgeon.

I have found quite a few James Forshaw's but none with 1789.  Robert his son also a Blacksmith was baptised at St Peter's

Baptism: 6 Jun 1819 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancs.
Robert Forshaw - S of James Forshaw & Elisabeth
Abode: Gt Crosshall St
Occupation: Blacksmith
Baptised by: T. Kidd Curate
Register: Baptisms 1819 - 1820, Page 40, Entry 318
Source: LDS film 1656378

Not found the marriage of James Forshaw & Elizabeth  ?

 ??? ??? ??? ???

I am beginning to think that the Cooper and the Blacksmith are somehow related.

Thanks for your help
