Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Smith Japanese Prisoner of War?

A dear friend of 87 years was evacuated to A-de-la-Zouch c1942 and was placed at a home where the son of the family (British Army in South East Asia) was possibly a prisoner of war of the Japanese. How do I found out for him what may have happened to the son?

Thank you for your reply Pauline. I'm not sure of the man's full name. I did find a John/Jack Smith who sounded a possible contender in prisoner of war records. The family lived in Westfield Road/Avenue, AdlZ. Would someone be able to confirm any information from 1939 Register please?

There is a Smith family in Westfield Avenue in 1939 with a number of redacted entries, but no visible sign of John/Jack.  Nothing in Westfield Road.

Thank you Bumble Bee for your research. My friend did venture back to the address to where he had been evacuated once but, even though parked outside, was too afraid to knock the door in case the son had perished.

 I know it's difficult as there may be relatives still living. I don't know much more I'm afraid.
