Where do i go from here? ROBERTS family
« on: Sunday 05 November 17 16:51 GMT (UK) »
I've spent ages trying to research William Roberts, he's buried in St Marys Conwy.

I have his death certificate to say he died 27th may 1862 at age 16 years old and it was his dad, John Roberts who was present at death - engine driver.

How do i find information on Williams mum and dad? I'm pretty certain his mum and dad are Mary & John Roberts but how do i find there DOB/there life before having children? or there death? i never know if the records i see are the correct ones and i don't know how i'd ever know either!? :(

x

Yes,  but you need to start with what you know about them.  Mabel and later keyboard found this which showed dates of birth.  You'll need to find a marriage and then, if they marreid after 1837, you could get the certificate and find out their parents and then look for suitable baptisms ~

To start - 1861 census. Address Mount Pleasant

John Roberts    49 - engine driver, b Amlwch, Anglesey
Mary Roberts    46 - b Caernarvon
Thomas Roberts    16 - butcher b Bangor
William Roberts    14 - b bangor

Mabel ellenmai gave you refs to the baptisms of the two boys ( http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=760626.0 )  so,  cross referencing William and Thomas's birth registrations on the GRO index, the most likely surname for Mary is Jones.  That's if they did register the births.

Ok Thank you, I can work out there birth year from previous comments made. But how would I know that the marriage date would be correct? I don't know when it is they could of got married, there's so many John's and Mary's who married in Wales :( haha
