Make and date of car please in Ilfracombe
« on: Wednesday 08 November 17 01:11 GMT (UK) »
Taken in the 1930s I think, probably at Ilfracombe on hols.
(The moody model at the back with the fabulous full length leather coat was my mother!  :))

I've just noticed - is there something/someone IN the car?

Many thanks

Morris 10-6, Morris Cowley 6? Late 30's early 40's perhaps. See what the experts think

I think it would be better if you post 300 dpi scanned photo to Identify whats inside the car..it seems to be  a hat on driver chair-top

I'm with japeflakes on this, Morris 10/6. Or 12/6,  about 1934/5,  not a cheap car tho' could have easily lasted till well after the war, so not helpful for dating the photo.

Good evening,

It's the Cowley 6 saloon,  with continuous line of vent slits along the side engine cover. The 10s didn't have the same continuous vents but had a 4in wide vent part way along the side.

I think the scuttle, part between windscreen and engine covers, was wider on the 10s. Will have to look that up.

Thanks John.
By all accounts even more expensive than the Morris 10!
Unfortunately it belonged to the chap in the photo - which wasn't my ancestor!  :)
