Hi, you need to scan the photo at 600 dpi and just scan the picture and not the whole scanner back plate. I've had a try at your original scan but there is not enough detail, regards, John.

Hi Katie and welcome to RootsChat...in the preview section of your scanner, you will see black dotted lines...using the grab handles, pull these around the photo area and the photo will be scanned, thereby avoiding scanning the lid.

Hmm, don't know what's happened here, but Katie's 2nd scan has posted worse than the first one. I'll have a go later today at restoring from the first one unless somehow we can get a better image to work on. Perhaps a third try, Kate? I wonder if light seeped in when you were scanning (but I'm not technically minded enough to know what could have happened, sorry).
Cheers, Peter.

You are right Peter . . . .  it pixilates really badly now - don't know why.

Just altered the light a bit.
