Clarice/Clarissa Anderton
« on: Wednesday 08 November 17 16:30 GMT (UK) »
Another elusive person in my tree!    I have Clarissa Anderton born Dec Q 1890 in Keighley, Yorks to Jonas B and Sarah E in the 1891 census.

No trace of her after this in the UK.    I have her in the USA in the 1910 census in Lawrence City, Massachusetts with her Aunts Emily and Clarissa Murgatroyd  (Sarah Es half sisters)

Can find no trace between 1891 and 1910.   Anyone help with her date of trip to the US please.

Rosie -thanks for that info - should have posted it.

Sandra - thanks for your input.    This family is really bugging me and the answers above have thrown another spanner in the works.

Who is the Clarissa Anderton b 1867 who takes Clarissa to Boston???    Sarah Es mother is Mary Jane Murgatroyd.    The Murgatroyds  go to Boston on 2 December 1889 On the Catalonia.    There is a Sarah on the list but who is she???    Sarah E is a half sister to the Ms (mothers 1st marriage to Pearson Davey) who married Jonas Beck on the 26 December 1889!!!!!    She is also on Emily Ms grave stone in Lawrence Mass as having died in 1891.

What a muddle

should have said that 1891 Census has:
Jonas B Anderton
Sarah E Anderton
Clarissa Anderton
Edwin Anderton Brother
James Davies Bro in Law -  bro to Sarah E

http://www.sec.state.ma.us/vitalrecordssearch/VitalRecordsSearch.aspx
shows a death for Sarah E Anderton (Davey) in 1892.

Perhaps "Clarissa" senior on the shipping list is Sarah E, just a mixup?

On the outbound manifest for the Catalonia they are transcribed as Mrs. S. E. Anderson (age 28) and Claretta (infant).

Thank you all for your replies and information.

There is another person in the mix:    Sarah Elizabeth Anderton b1863, sister of Jonas B!!!

I have sent for the BC of Clarice although Sandra has noted her mothers name as "Davy" (I cannot seem to find this info at all)
