I have narrowed Leslie Edward down to the one who was POW and brother to Mrs Kowitz.  She is a definite relative. Her brother has been more elusive but it was great to see a photo of him. Will keep looking for a marriage now.
Thank you

Edward enlisted with the AIF and left Australia in 1915, returning in 1919.

With two daughters and then a five year gap until a son was apparently born, I would want to compare DNA if Leslie was my ancestor.

Debra  :)

So is this just an error on the part of Edward Chaplin CASEY when completing the form?

Married 30/12/1908
Female child born 6/5/10
Female child born 3/4/12
Male child 22/7/1920

We have the right day and month, but..... ::)

Leslie possibly added a couple of few years to his age so he could enlist without parents' consent (both parents were deceased) and maybe his sister or guardian wasn't keen for him to enlist ....?

That birthdate tallies with NSW death age of 66 for Leslie

Which birth date tallies?
The one on his father's family details form, or the one given on his enlistment index?

In 1980, as mentioned by OP, one Leslie Edward CASEY was living at Mt Isa.
With him a woman who had been registered at the same address as Leslie since about 1949, and three others of the same surname.
Address 61 Pamela Street, Mt Isa.

The man was a timber worker on many of his enrolment entries.

The 1920 birthdate tallies with the age of 66 given on the 1986 NSW death of Leslie Edward CASEY.

The application for administration of estate announcement says he was a retired manager ...
(adding : for the man who died in NSW in 1986)

Hi,

The 2nd AIF minimum age was 20 in 1939 and changed to 19 in 1941.  If he stuck to his 27th July 1920 birth date he would not have been able to enlist on 1st May 1940, fixed by adding 3 years to his age.
