People mentioned in the first two extracts (all I have time for now):

1.  her godson ffraunces Iden the son of her son John Iden.

2.  Alexander Lye the son of her son Andrewe Lye.

3.  John Lye, described as brother of Alexander.

4.  Agnes Lye the daughter of her son Andrew Lye.

Matt, this will would be a perfect opportunity for you to try the full transcription yourself.

It's a good clean page, with clearly formed letters and excellent contrast.

You won't find a better C16th document to practice on.

Hiya

Many thanks for that. I think the only names I didn't have from this extract was the names of her godson Fraunces Iden. I guess he was also Katheren's grandson as the term "my son John Iden" probably refers to her son-in-law [or possibly another relative].

You are right about this being quite a good clean and clear Will and I have managed to read almost all of it (although not transcribe it as this takes longer due to the wonky writing lol!) but at the moment I am just working on extracting the names and then I can work on transcribing it section by section.

People mentioned in page 2 extract 1:

1.  The testator's cousin John Elexanders wife.

2.  Katheryn, daughter to the above.

3.  The testator's cousin Roger Jefferye.

4.  Margerye Lye, widow of Andrewe Lye.

5.  The wife of George Wrest.

Note that no-one new was mentioned in Extract 3.

Ah! So the name of that cousin is "John Elexander" I could make out "John El......" and saw an x in the middle but wasn't sure if it was Elexander or something else, Elexander/Ellexander was how I read it so I am glad I got that right. Could Elexander be a variation of Alexander do you think?

The name "Roger Jefferye" rings a bell as I think he is mentioned in the Will of Katheren's late husband John A'Lee.

I think I may have managed to transcribe all these names with the exception of George Wrest which I think I read was George West. I've tended to use modern spellings of names like Richard and Katherine as well as the surname Richardson rather than the spellings used here, just so I can keep a track of them in my files. It's good to know that I'm on the right track identifying these people.

Many Thanks

Matt

Yes, I would think so.
