Searching Anglo Indian marriage late 1800’s
« on: Friday 10 November 17 07:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi, any idea how to trace the marriage or any other info on:

Francis Edward Hunter born Ireland abt 1880 ( or at leastthought to be Irish)
Married an Indian lady - no details
Lived in India, probably Bareilly, Bengal area

All I know is that he was present at his daughters wedding - Pearl Margaret Hunter to Joseph Frank Glover on 23 Aug 1924 in Bareilly, Bengal.

Story is Pearl was half Indian and her father who was from a ‘good’ family disowned her (she was very pregnant at the time of marriage). Pearl and ‘Frank’ Glover returned to UK and lived in Sheffield.

Frances Edward Hunter is the mystery as I can’t find anything on him.

Thank you!

Closest I can find is a Francis Edward Hunter born 1875 Lancashire-

However, an online tree gives a marriage (and children) in Lancashire  :-\
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi there. Thanks, however I don’t think it is the Freckleton Hunters. I think Francis lived in India and married an Indian lady.

Does anyone know where I might find records of Anglo/Indian weddings?

As good as the British India Collection deposited at the British LIbrary and available on FindMyPast is, it is not complete by their own reckoning so they may have married in a church or chapel and the records have been lost. Or the records were never deposited and are still in India.

(I noticed the daughter married in a Methodist chapel)

Thanks Dawnsh -  I didn't realise it was a Methodist chapel so will follow that lead for father's marriage.

I'd also like to find out his wife's name and his occupation but not sure where to look as searched on main sites like FindMyPast and Ancestry to no avail.

PS Dawnsh - where did you find out it was a Methodist chapel as it doesn't say on the record I have?
