Sergeant Instructor Volunteer Infantry
« on: Saturday 11 November 17 13:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am researching a family for a friend and one of her ancestors was a Sergeant Instructor for the Volunteer Infantry as mentioned in 1891 and 1901 censuses. Are their records of such individuals and if so where are they held?

These men were mostly, but not exclusively, regular soldiers attached to the volunteer force.  When not serving regulars, they could be ex-regulars.  There may well have been exceptions but the records of the majority would be found, if they have survived, with all other soldiers records.  Both Ancestry and Findmypast have free access to military records this weekend so you may wish to start there.  Many volunteer units provided men for the Boer War which came in last part of the time frame .  www. angloboer.com  has a name search facility.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
