« on: Saturday 11 November 17 17:03 GMT (UK) »
In the old family album it is amongst photos of nurses, so may have a medical reference. dated between 1927-1934.

Any help appreciated

Good evening,

I don't think this is Sussex, the architecture doesn't look right. Also, I have never seen or heard of punts being used anywhwre in Sussex.

The river also looks to shallow to be one of our deep muddy watercourses.

I think it could be Sonning bridge.

The house now being "The Great House" restaurant

I agree that it may not be Sussex.
You can just see the two white gables of the large house in Pauline's picture.  St Andrews Sonning does have a Norman tower which you can see in your picture to the right.  Don't know how close to the river it is though  :-\

I do believe you are correct PaulineJ.

My grandmothers grandmother lived in Sonning.

Thanks John915 for directing us out of Sussex.

Thank you so much

I found Sonning just a few minutes too late  :)

You can just make out the top of the church tower on this one ...

Back again,

Now that location is confirmed I feel really stupid. I used to drive over that bridge regularly on deliveries. So being the Thames it is by no means shallow, in fact the last couple of times I went over I had to drive through floods to get to the bridge. The water level was lapping at the door sills of the restaurant when I went past.

The whole valley was under water up to and past Henley which was my furthest point of delivery. The centre of Reading was also endangered.

And again,

Just went on st view, it us no more. It is dead, tote, deceased, it has been demolished.

I popped the little fella on the middle of the bridge, turned him round and found myself looking at a building site, or the hoardings of.

What a pity, such is the way  >:(  I suppose the poor old bridge just couldn't take the modern traffic and no way to keep the old one and build a new one close by.
