"Qualified to perform the duties of a Cold-shoe" - What's that ?

I've got a service record that states (on the last page) against "4. Passed classes of instruction.."

"Qualified to perform the duties of a Cold-shoe at aldershot 31.8.17"

So what's a cold-shoe then ?
Most roots researched back to the early/mid 1800s. Years noted as 'pre' refer to my direct ancestors, although I'm interested in any relatives:

Fitting shoes on to a horse without the use of heat to shape the shoe to the hoof.

It's quicker than hot-shoing, but can be less precise, particularly if the horse has unusual-shaped feet.

Thanks. I just noticed that the line above mentions mounted infantry, so I should have spotted the horse/shoe connection!

And a slight correction to your transcription - it actually says "cold-shoer", rather than "cold-shoe" which makes more sense.
