Foy Family (Liverpool)
« on: Sunday 12 November 17 14:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am deep into my maternal family tree but am struggling to break past 1 generation of my paternal Foy line.

The only information I hold is that of my Grandfather; R J Foy (1930's~) who married Catherine and had several children.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. :)

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

Birth record -

R J Foy
Mother's Maiden Surname - Foy
1930's, West Derby
Vol 8b Page 639

You could purchase the birth cert to find who his parents were, however as the surname of the mother and child are the same then this would imply an illegitimate birth.

Has your Grandfather passed away? If not then his name should be deleted from the post as RootsChat has a living persons policy.

JJ

The freebie on the 1939 register has him living with a Mabel Cartwright + 2 others.
There's a 1928 marriage between a Mabel Foy & William Cartwright.
There's also a birth for a Mabel Edith Foy in 1906,
both of these registered in the W.Derby district.
As he was born 1933 probably not him thinking about it.

It's not him.

Hi all,

I am deep into my maternal family tree but am struggling to break past 1 generation of my paternal Foy line.

The only information I hold is that of my Grandfather; Richard James Foy (1933~) who married Catherine Brown and had several children.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. :)

If this is the right birth index mentioned in this thread then you might be able to find out the father's name from the Liverpool archives at the Liverpool Record Office. There is a collection called "Liverpool Affiliation Registers, 1924-1964 [347 MAG 3]" you can make an appointment to view particular years within the years 1924-1964 each entry includes the name of the putative father in cases where the mother pursued maintenance payments. Welcome to rootschat,
I think this could be your man.

It is probable that he has other merchant navy records detailing the ships he sailed on with dates and places of engagement and discharge.
