What does this mean?
« on: Sunday 12 November 17 18:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

In researching ancestors here, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VQHK-B66, I ran across the husband's name as Rot. Any idea what Rot. means? Thanks in advance.

Think it's short for Robert although it's normally Rbt on documents I've seen. Maybe here they used there own abbreviations.

Thanks for the quick responses! Given naming conventions, perhaps not; we don't have any Roberts down the line... ??? What do you think?

Names go in and out of fashion and not everyone keeps to family conventions. I have 3rd grandparents whose children almost all followed convention and used family names. One son however decided on biblical names from the old testament e.g. Noah, Delilah, Daniel, Isaac. These names soon went out and family names returned via the children. Perhaps they didn't like their names, Delilah used Delia in the censuses once she was married.
