Burial possibilities Stockton, Thornaby,who knows.
« on: Sunday 12 November 17 21:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi. After much searching I've at last found a newspaper report on the 1910 death of my Gt.Grandfather, SWIRES RILEY. He lived in Darlington St., Stockton, worked at Teesdale Ironworks and died in Thornaby Hospital following an "accidental fall" from an overhead crane.
I have the 3rd edition NBI but he doesn't feature on that.
Does anyone have any knowledge or even a vague idea of which cemetery he may have ended up in?
Any help with this would be brilliant as my brickwall seems higher ever time I look.
Thanks,
David

Daisy, bless you. Many thanks for finding a record of Swires' burial.
I don't have FindMyPast but I do have Ancestry. However, Ancestry doesn't come up with a burial record, only a simple record of his death.
The link that you provided doesn't record his burial either, so thank goodness you subscribe to FindMyPast.lol
I'll have to venture up to Thornaby in the near future and do a manual search of the cemetery registers to find where he is and pay my respects in person.
So please accept my warm thanks for letting me know which cemetery to go to.

Kind regerds,

David Riley

Glad to have helped :)

The link I gave you has a link in it so that you can contact them "if your search is unsuccessful; some of the records we hold might not yet be included in our website."

Here's where it goes in case it isn't working for you,

Good Luck :)

They are very helpful at BS in Stockton.
Seeing as he was buried in 1910, I would expect it'll be in the older part of the Cemetery.
I'd suggest the best thing to do would be to ring Bereavement Services (01642 527341/2), and you'll be able to arrange an appointment to have a member of Cemetery staff meet you at the Cemetery and locate the grave for you.
