Thanks again Gotinsnima.  I knew of the Kinkead-Rankin marriage but the McIlwaine-Rankin connections is interesting.  Good point about the records not capturing earlier kids.  Perhaps he was only married twice.

I see from Bill Macafee's site that there were two McIlwaine families in Raphoe barony in the 1663 Hearth Money rolls.  One was in Taughboyne parish where there were Kincaids.  They were in Altaskin townland which later featured the Rankins.  The other was actually an Andrew McIlvaine living on Lough Swilly next to Ballybegley where there was a Kincaid family in the 1730s.
