Hello again Ian - Jamcat95.  Thank you so much for the Marriage Certificate and the Birth Certificate.  I have a question and possible a favour ......I cannot understand what is written on the certificates.  I can see the names Edvard and one or two of the Bertelsen but not much else on the certificates.  Do you know if there is anywhere I can translate what is written to English.  Unfortunately I have no understanding of the Dutch language.  I have copied and enlarged as much as possible and still have absolutely no idea of what else is written or even the titles in each column.  If you can point me into the direction of someone who could help I would be very appreciative.  Thank you, Karen

Hello again Ian.

I only have Edvard's (Edvard Jorgen Jorgesen) children in Australia.

Edvard changed his name to Edward Johnson when arriving here in Australia and only found out through this posting that Edward was actually Edvard Jorgen Jorgesen a less than 24 hours ago.
Thank you again! :-)

Thanks
I have found this Edward's siblings and there are some similarities with his children. I will post them later tonight after work.
This could well be your Edward and I am still trying to find more evidence.
I have seen many Scandinavian seamen changing their surnames mainly because they had jumped ship and in doing so evading capture. So I believe Edward was a seaman. I have checked the seamen records but they didn't have the earlier years unfortunately. He lived by the sea at Langesund in Telemark.

Ian, I was told by the Great Granddaughter of Edward Johnson's (Edvard Jorgen Jorgensen's) that the family considered themselves Danish.  So it may be possible that there is a link back to Denmark? I am not sure where to look but I did find this on Ancestry.

Denmark, Select Baptisms, 1618-1923 (in Danish)
BIRTH, MARRIAGE & DEATH
NAME:    Jorgen Jorgensen
FATHER:    Jorgen Bertelsen

I am not a paid up member at this time.  I am hoping to renew in the next few weeks so I am not sure if this has any relevance or not?  I am guessing there are a lot of Jorgen Bertelsen's?

Thanks again for your help!
Karen
