Where was Harriet in 1851?
There were 2 girls called Hannah Duffy at 16 Mill St., Hull, in the household of Michael & Mary Lyon. The elder Hannah, aged 12 is a match for Harriet's daughter, Hannah in 1861. Her relationship was described as "cousin". A Bridget Duffy, 38, wood seller, was "aunt"; Mary Duffy, 16 was another cousin. The younger Hannah, aged 5 may have been "daughter".  Harriet & John Duffy lived at Leaks Court (?), Mill St. in 1861.
1861. The same Bridget Duffy seems to have been at 21 Mill St. with daughter, Ann, 15 (possibly the younger Hannah from 1851).
Another Duffy family, headed by another Bridget,  also dealer in firewood, was at 62 Mill St. in 1851. She had 3 children born in Ireland and 1, Anthony b. Leeds 1843. Lodgers were Patrick & Betsy McLane.

Harriet Duffy is my 4x grandmother 1802-1889
This is my family
Margaret Duffy 3 x grandma
John Duffy 4 x grandfather

All come over from Mayo Ireland circa 1840's
HARRIET DUFFY b 1802 but I can't find her Maiden name anywhere.
Also Harriet was her grandchild who would have been Harriet Lowery daughter of Walter Lowery and Margaret Duffy.
They all lived in Leeks court at one point.

I have an ancestry tree if that helps

John & Harriet lived in Hull.
1861 with 4 children, Hannah, Catherine, John and Patrick, all children born Ireland c1839-1845. A grandchild with surname Lowery is with them. Nearby is a young couple called Lowery with more children.
They remained in Hull 1871 & 1881.
1871 daughter Ellen and son John with them.

Yes
Thank you

Thank you they are all catholics

Am driven demented bout my 3x great grandmother in my family tree. Her name is Harriet 1805 - 1889 her husband is John Duffy 1801-1889. No wedding details as most records for 1800-1835 are impossible to find online. Place is Bahola Mayo, I even paid for her daughters marriage cert only to find her father only in attendance! They had to have moved to Yorkshire circa 1845 ish as not in censy 1841 but are in 1851 yet same thing no Maiden name on anything on ancestry n other sites etc.... Any ideas please???

You didn't say what religion they were,

Should famtree's post (reply #13) be a new thread, with a more precise title? The subject of famtree's search, Harriet, is from a different family and was living in a different county, Yorkshire, from that of the original poster's, who was Golding in Liverpool.

It is a regular thing when one thread gets hijacked by another.

Oh dear sorry if I did something wrong, don't quit know my way around roots yet.
Didn't mean to spoil anyone's thread, I thought I had started a new topic.

Hi FamTree03

Any ideas? Yes . . . . .

Why not give all the details that you know?

eg 1851/61 details should you know them?

" daughters marriage cert only to find her father only in attendance! "
How do you know that "he was on his own " ?
Do you mean that his was the only signature you recognised?
etc.

Come on. Rootschat is here to help if we can, but we need details . . . . .

Ray

I have marriage cert for
Walter Lowery
Margaret Duffy
Only signature of relative witness is her father John Duffy.

My family all came from Ireland
Duffy to Lowery to Godfrey to Myers my grandmother Margaret Ann Myers who lived on Hessle road Hull Yorkshire.

Even though Walter Lowery and Margaret Duffy were married at St Charles Sculcoates hull they were both born in Co Mayo Ireland.

John Duffy married to Harriet was born and married in Ireland of which there are no records pre 1857 and although I live in Ireland now am too ill to travel to Mayo.

I do have a family tree in ancestry UK but there records have become very limited in last few years and membership is expensive. It never reveals a person's occupation either.

Thanks
