Help.....advice on researching Scottish relatives.....Richardson
« on: Monday 13 November 17 14:08 GMT (UK) »
Hello, trying to trace living relatives who originated in Greenock. My granddad and his brothers and sisters who were all born there. I have found most of their partners however I am relatively new to this and unsure of how I would find any of there children and so on.... Any advice on next research steps would be fab!

Hi

You don't give any details of timescales but I suspect you are looking for people born within the past 100yrs.  Scotlands people is the website to use but if you are researching a common surname it may be difficult to pinpoint the right birth as mothers maiden names aren't shown on the index.

You can narrow it down by location and timescale but births less than 100yrs ago are not downloadable

Hello,
I am fairly new to researching and was after some advice. I have been tracing my grandfathers family who were all born in Greenock, Scotland. I have found all of his siblings birth certificates via ‘Scotland’s people’......and have also managed to trace 8 out of the 10 siblings marriages. However I am now unsure how to start to research wether they had children? My grandfathers siblings were all born between 1895-1918 so some of their children would still be alive. Any advice would be appreciated....thanks

Hi ,

Was it the Richardson family ?
If so it might be better to merge this post with you Renfrewshire thread for further advice.

Deaths on SP after 1973 can be searched using mother's maiden surname , worth a try if you have not done so already  :-\
