It may or may not be connected, but Durham Records Online has a baptism of
James William Ree-Thompson in the Gateshead district in 1915.
details (a transcript) can be obtained for a small fee.

I wonder if this might be the above James

James William R Thompson died age 72
born 2 Apr 1915
Feb 1988 Gateshead Tyne and Wear Vol 2  Page 309

James W R Thompson mmn Roe
Apr-May-Jun 1915 Gateshead Durham
Volume:   10a  Page:   2169

That seems likely - thanks for checking.

I haven't found any other baptism at Durham Records Online, but as it's an ongoing project, it may be that they haven't got to it yet. The one in Gateshead seemed too similar not to mention, but clearly it's not the right one.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson
