William James Wilson

Dear Chatters - I am seeking help regarding my uncle, particularly in regard to his military service in WW1. William James Wilson lived at 88 Crown Street, Liverpool. He was born in 1888 and married Winifred Moss on 27th December 1915. I have traced the life and military service of his brothers and cousins but of WJW not one scrap have I found. Any help with this man's life story would be much appreciated.

Recorder.    PS Can anyone tell me if no. 88 was also a business premises?

His Service Record, if it survives, should be on Ancestry or FindMyPast?
Nearly 70% of all the WW1 Service Records were lost in a WW2 bombing raid.

The service record for the WJ Wilson in the FS link above is available on Ancestry.  Occupation prior to enlistment looks like seaman

The record is damaged but shows "attested and posted 20.10.14"

Cannot be your William as attestation shows him as married and you say your William only married in 1915

Many thanks for your quick replies.  I have been on to the family search link and turned up a William James Wilson. However there is nothing which would confirm he is our WJW. Whilst the D o B is only estimated at 1889 our man was 1888. What might we do? The military regiment is shown as K20778. What does this tell us?

We do not have access to Ancestry or Find my Past.  We have to go to a library in the neighbouring authority where we can have access for one hour. We will have a go when we next can.
