Just to finish what I started yesterday. The notice about the dissolution of the Gilbert/Gallon partnership appeared on 2 May 1867 in the Hull and Eastern Counties Herald. It specifies that the individuals were William Gilbert & JOHN Gallon, so might be a possibility. It seems there were debts, so would this have eventually initiated John's having to go to sea?  ??? :-\ :-\
