Alfred Curtis, Harrow - I'm stuck!
« on: Thursday 16 November 17 11:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi any help very welcome!

I have Alfred Curtis no DOB or place other than he lived later life in the Harrow, Middx area, father of Harry (or Henry) Clifford Curtis b 1924 in Yeadon, Yorkshire.  No mother's name but there is a daughter called Nina and other sons Alfred and Stanley.

I would like to know anything about Alfred the father (i.e. wife, DOB etc) so I can trace them back in time.

Many thanks

Val

Only one Alfred Curtis registered in Sept Qtr 1896:

Surname    First name(s)        District    Vol    Page
Births Sep 1896   (>99%)
Curtis    Alfred               Basford    7b   215

The maiden name of the mother was Fletcher.  Checked the marriages of Curtis/Fletcher and through searching found this one:

Surname    First name(s)        District    Vol    Page
Marriages Jun 1893

Curtis    Henry        Chesterfield    7b   1209
Fletcher    Maria        Chesterfield    7b   1209

Checking the 1901 census found this:

By 1911 the family are living in South Killingholme Lincolnshire.

In 1921 Alfred Curtis married Nina Heard in Glanford Brigg, Lincolnshire (18 miles from South Killingholme).

Do you think this could be your man?

Thank you all for your time and information, fantastic!

I've sent off for the marriage cert of Nina Heard and Alfred to see what comes back.  RayDen I will investigate your info.  It looks right but if so the family moved around a lot from Chesterfield to Basford, to Lincolnshire to Yeadon in Yorkshire then down to Essex and finally Harrow/Ruislip Middx area.

Thanks so much for your help.
Val

It looks as if Alfred's father was a Railway Contractor Labourer, which could explain why they moved around so much.
