George Chalmers death in 1893 Petrolea Marau Brazil

I'm not sure where I should be posting for help on this one.

I am looking for the death of a George Chalmers who was born Bathgate, and on a family headstone it gives details of his death -

George Chalmers - Petrolea Marahu March 1893 Brazil - Aged 28 years.

Why was he there, was he working ?

Any help or information would be most gratefully received.

I'm not getting anywhere on find my past  for Consular Deaths, I must be doing something wrong

I can't see him either. Possibly his death wasn't registered.

It may have been recorded at the Church where he was buried or there may be a mention in the local newspaper where his family were living.
