Jon GREGORY of Bisley
« on: Friday 17 November 17 00:00 GMT (UK) »
Im hoping someone might be able to offer a bit of advice here if possible please.

I have a James Gregory baptised 15 Oct 1720 at Bisley. And his baptism shows his father as Jon Gregory. As a marriage is drawing a blank, I can find 2 possible baptisms for Jon (John). Both of Bisley and both have the same father John!

John Gregory bap. 14 Mar 1708 and
John Gregory bap. 12 Feb 1709.

What I'm thinking is that the 1708 John died as a baby and John senior and his wife called the next son John in 1709.

Is anyone able to offer any help on this? Or find anything else I might have missed?

Thank you.
David.

Are you trying to say that one of the Johns baptised 1708 or 1709 is the father of James baptised 1720? If so they would have been rather young to father a child being 11 and 12 respectively.

Will have a look later, as there are more burials etc on Ancestry.

Up until the Marriage Act of 1929, Boys could marry at 12 and girls could marry at 14 usually with permission, My x Grandmother in 1820 was aged 13/14 - followed by the birth within a couple of months of her first child.

Thank for all those other Gregory baptisms. Didn't see the 1705 one.

I've got one rellie who was 13 and had her first child, so thought this might be the case here.

All confused now  ;D

Thank you.
