They're hiding behind a layer of these "Ancestry Directly" people;

My name is XXXXX. I am an Ancestry Directly Expert . We are advanced Ancestry users who are assisting with queries such as yours.

.
.
As I mentioned earlier, Ancestry are aware of the issue. They have said they are attempting to resolve it but have not given a date for resolution. There is nothing that I as another customer can do to speed the process of resolution. All I can do is advise customers to let Ancestry know your displeasure by submitting feedback on the page I posted on the previous message
.
.
(which was)

I totally agree with you. As a fellow customer it is very frustrating. You can make your feeling known to Ancestry on their feedback page http://www.ancestry.com/cs/suggestions

It seems that it is a case of we will take your money but we really don't care about the service we are giving.  Whichever link you follow they don't want to listen to complaints.

As for Ancestry Directly Experts I wonder how they qualified to be called that, would you work voluntarily for them  ???

May there's a free (or discounted) sub in it for them?

Maybe there is.  They are not really giving any help though, just fobbing us off.  ;D

I attempted to escalate matters from a "Directly" person to an actual An*stry employee. I got this:

Dear Paul,

Thank you for contacting Ancestry in regards to not being able to search the British Phone Books, 1880-1984 collection.

We're sorry for not getting back to you sooner. We are always sorry to learn that our members had a frustrating experience. We are happy to assist you. This issue has been reported. We ask for your patience in this matter. Unfortunately, we do not have a time frame for when this will be resolved.

When you pull up no results, you can look on the left hand side at the box below the filters and select Browse Individual Records to help you access what you are searching for.

While we hope you enjoy using our Services, there are things we don't promise about our Services. For further information, please click on the following link:

If you need additional assistance, reply to this email or feel free to contact us by phone at 0-800-783-1340 from 9 AM to 10 PM GMT, Monday through Friday or from 9 AM - 8 PM GMT, Saturday and Sunday.  If you're calling from outside of the UK, please click here for numbers and hours in your region.

Kind regards,

Thanks for that  :)

What amazes me is that it was working so what is the problem.  It is not as though they have not transcribed it.

People will just have to be patient  ::)

Agreed - it used to work, and other phone books still work.

Ahem. IMHO People "will have to" bombard them with complaints to get it fixed. ;)

Browsing the pages (at least I suppose they're sorted) is OK if you KNOW where your ancestors lived, but the whole point and merit of searchable records is that you can find stuff you didn't know about.

It appears to be (finally) searchable again.
