Stephen COCKING - Redruth murder 1716
« on: Friday 17 November 17 16:30 GMT (UK) »
The Redruth parish register (December 1716) has the entry:
Stephen Cocking murdered & buried 10ber 13th

Assuming I have the correct Stephen Cocking, he was baptised in 1641, had 7 children between 1667 and 1683, and was survived by wife Jane who died in 1725.

Although the PR has "Note" written in the margin in a different hand, I can't find a note.

I have searched the PR and the Thurstan transcript, tried the Cornwall OPC, National Archive, British History Online, and the mighty google, but I can't find a reference to Stephen's murder.  Does any kind and brilliant Rootschatter have any idea where I might look for information?

Many thanks in advance.
Philip
