Tomb of John and Mary Irish St. Mary's Islington
« on: Friday 17 November 17 17:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello. I'm hoping that perhaps somebody might be able to look for the tomb of my ancestors John and Mary Irish which is in the churchyard of St. Mary's Islington, I would love to know if there is an inscription on it, and that perhaps they would be kind enough to take a photo of it.

Crossing my fingers, kind regards, Brenda

When did they die

ADDED If John died in 1893 he is in a grave with several others (not family)

John was buried 1776 and Mary was buried 1766 and I understand it was a tomb, it seems from his Will that he was well off

Thank you for replying, Brenda

There's little left at St Mary's by way of visible memorials - an 1880s road-widening scheme, and then the Blitz, destroyed much of the churchyard.  I think there are some large tombs still visible but it's mostly just an urban garden now.  Happy to have a look if I get a chance over the weekend (I am local).

A survey of surviving headstones and vaults was produced in 1951

That's a great find!  Many more than I thought.  None in the name of Irish though, by the looks of it.
