Hi guys

Just curious about something i've come across this evening in a parish baptismal record. The baptism was of one Samuel Avery on 31st July 1831 in Tedburn St Mary, to Thomas Avery & Mary Plymsell. However, where it says the surname it is written as 'Avery alias Crocker'.

Any idea what this might mean?

It's very odd as it is only on one of his children's baptismal records as Avery alias Crocker.  ???
