Brockbushes
« on: Saturday 18 November 17 21:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, whilst doing my family tree my ancestors lived in Brocksbushes 1765-1800, does anybody know if this a farm or a hamlet, i know there a fruit farm there now?
Maybe someone can shed light on this place.

Thanks
Allan Robson.

It appears the address of the current Brocksbushes is Brocksbushes Farm, Northumberland NE43 7UB.

The website is  http://www.brocksbushes.co.uk/

if that helps to identify if it is yours.

There is a Northumberland Farms Index from c1860 but I can not find it at the moment
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Do you know where your ancestors lived from their marriage, baptisms of their children or deaths ?

Hi Allan  :)

Here it is in the 1860's http://maps.nls.uk/view/102346479#zoom=5&lat=6767&lon=5410&layers=BT
it looks like a collection of farm buildings to me, rather than a hamlet  :-\

In 1841 there were three households there: a farmer, and an assortment of Agricultural Labourers.

i know there a fruit farm there now?

There's also an excellent farm shop and very nice cafe  ;D

Thanks Jen I have been there and had a coffee and cake and picked Strawberries, it seemed to me to be a farm and wondered if that's all it was.
