Hi Doddsie,
Many thanks for your help here.
I have recently found Norman Campbell on the 1911 census. Here is the household;
11 Craigie Street, Parish of Strathbungo, Govan Third, Glasgow. Susan Alexander, Head, 37, Boarding House Keeper, Born Glasgow
Elizabeth Alexander, Sister, 32, Fish Merchant, Born Glasgow
Norman Campbell, Boarder, 27, Police Constable (Glasgow Corporation), Born Inverness, KilmuirPeter Mulvie/Melvie(?), 23, Police Constable, Born Argyll, Morvern
Interestingly it's noted that both Norman and Peter could speak both English and Gaelic.
So, I then found Norman in various census with his parents; Angus Campbell born circa 1833, Kilmuir and Flora Campbell born circa 1834 also Kilmuir.
In 1891, Norman is living at Kendrum, Kilmuir (Skye) with his parents Angus (a crofter as per Norman's marriage cert in 1914), Flora and a brother apparently also called Norman aged 16. Not sure if this is correct or not. Going further back in various census it appears Angus and Flora were at Kendrum for a few decades and prior to Norman being born I manage to get a list of other siblings;
All born Kilmuir, years approximate
Malcolm 1857
Flora 1860
John 1862
Marey 1866
Malcolm 1868
(another one)Ann 1870
Murdo 1872
Norman 1 1875 (?)
Norman 2 1882 (the one I'm researching).
I feel that this list is not complete yet however, but I have seen no trace of any Samuel or Dolina's yet.
I also noticed Norman Campbell, constable at 35 Riverford Road on an Electoral Register.
Yes this is the same man, 35 Riverford Road is the address Norman gave on his marriage certificate in 1914.
Do you know the date of this record at all? So far I have him at 11 Craigie Street, Govan in 1911 and Riverford Road in 1914.
Many thanks, I will investigate these other names further.
Edit: Forgot to mention that in the 1901 census, Kendrum, Kilmuir there is a grandchild living with Angus and Flora Campbell; Flora Campbell, Grand-daughter, 6,
born Lanarkshire.Also questioning whether or not my Norman Campbell is in fact the son of Angus and Flora as Flora would've been approx 46-48 when she had Norman. Which isn't beyond the realms of possibility but still.
