How do I find if a marriage in Goole was C of E or Catholic?
« on: Sunday 19 November 17 12:07 GMT (UK) »
Have found marriage record for Rachel Ellen Mant to Septimus C Pells.
Septimus C Pells & Rachael E Mant Sept qtr 1916 Goole
Volume Number   9c Page number   1464

How can I find out the marriage place without sending for certificate please? Am wanting to know the religion so If I could find place of marriage it should give me a clue.
Someone kindly sent me a link to look up places of marriage on BMD but I have lost it.
Many thanks.

It could, of course, have taken place in a Register Office.

Unless you can find it online somewhere (I couldn't) the most efficient way would be to get the certificate.

According to GENUKI, there are 21 different places in the Goole Registration District, and some of those will have more than one church - see https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/goole.html  How long would it take you to search through all those?

It's not as though they're all in one place, either: Goole itself was in the parish of Snaith, and it appears that the registers for some places in the parish are at Doncaster Archives and some at the Borthwick Institute - and some marriage registers for 1916 are still held by the churches. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Snaith - and there will be similar pages for the other places in the registration district.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Hi, if I have the correct man, (can't be many by that name) he looks to have been a Merchant seaman, if he was serving at the time of his marriage in 1916 then his papers may hold a clue.

He looks to appear on both first and second world war medal rolls.

Back again, his records, CR1 CR2 and CR10 are on "Find My Past" including a photograph but no mention of marriage.
