My husband also confirmed that it was Bill Speakman at the Cenotaph last week.

As a schoolboy he met Speakman in Berwick On Tweed around 1954. My husband was at Queen Victoria School in Dunblane and as it was and still is a school for children of serving military personnel
the uniform is military type. Hubbie was pulled up by Speakman for not saluting the VC. He was around 12 years old and had not noticed the medal.

With regards to 'Not saluting the Medal'; I was in the Royal Hospital, Chelsea on Remembrance Day and saw Johnson Beharry there, with his VC proudly at the front of his row of medals. I also saw Bill Speakman outside Westminster Abbey a year or two ago, and no one was saluting him.
