the elusive birth of Charles SMITH said to be born 28 Mar 1860 Toowoomba
« on: Sunday 19 November 17 13:06 GMT (UK) »
Hoping for some assistance to track down a birth record for Charles SMITH son of James SMITH & Jane McGARRETY said to have occurred 28 Mar 1860 Toowoomba.

I cannot locate Charles on the QLD BDM, FindMyPast FamilySearch or Anc.  A few trees have him born in Toowoomba on 28 Mar 1860 however I am unable to verify that information hence hoping for some expert assistance from this forum.

Charles married Mary Dale daughter of William DALE & Mary SHELTON at Dalby 28 Mar 1883 which makes me wonder if its coincidence that Charles was married on the same day and month he was born or is the date a bit of creative thinking  or  ???

Charles died 21 Apr 1933 and it is said he is buried at Toowong although i am unable to locate his burial. ???

Fingers crossed Charles birth will be located.

It would help if you could find out where the date of birth has come from.  Sometimes people just make stuff up and everyone copies.

Re Nathaniel BEAUTY ...
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTHK-HMK   Born 27 Jan 1855, baptised 25 March 1855.

NSW BDM online has two entries in their Early Church Records for the above
1855, vol 42A ... Nathaniel, son of James and Jane BEAUTY.
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/family-history.aspx

Queensland was not hived off from NSW until 1859.

NSW BDM online has James BEAUTY marrying Jane MCGARITY in 1854.  Vol 81, line 891.  The ECR code of QG represents Ipswich, Presbyterian.   :)

Hello Debra,

Unable to verify [as yet] the origins of the birth but the whole things seems copied by others.

Hi. I've just come across your request.  If you find anything let me know.  Charles Smith is my Great Grandfather and we are also having the same issues. I have a copy of the marriage certificate for Charles Smith and Mary Dale dated 28 Mar 1883, Dalby. His parents are listed as James Smith and Jane McGanetty (spelling issues come from deciphering old writing I guess). His age is stated as 22. That would make his birth year circa 1861 even though we also had 1860. I also have other information gathered from his mother Jane's death certificate.
