Wilson Family 1851 / 1861 Census Dunfermline
« on: Sunday 19 November 17 15:16 GMT (UK) »
Good Afternoon Everyone

1851 census
1 Grieve Street Dunfermline
John Wilson age 44  Journeyman Baker b. Dunfermline Fife
(Parents Robert Wilson and Jean Gibb)
Catherine Wilson age 40 Wife b. Dumfries Dumfries-shire
(Parents James Hepburn and Margaret Douglas)
Martha Wilson age 18  b. Dumfries Dumfries-shire
Robert Wilson age 16 Hand Loom Weaver -  born 1835 Dumfries Dumfries-shire
Jean Wilson age 14  b. Dumfries Dumfries-shire
John Wilson age 12 b. Dunfermline Fife
Brown Wilson age 6  - born 1845 Dunfermline Fife(F'name as enum'ed cannot find IGI)
William Wilson age 4 b. Dunfermline Fife
James Wilson age 3 b. Dunfermline Fife

1861 Census
John Wilson died 1857
Catherine died 1851
Martha I believe has married a Christopher Donald
Robert who should be aged 26 I cannot find
Jean who should be aged 24 I cannot find
John who should be aged 22 I cannot find
Brown I think has now become Robert Brown Wilson and is aged 17 and listed as a servant in the relation field and occupation Baker apprentice living in Guild Hall Street Dunfermline and I believe goes on to marry Christina Craig in 1874
William who should be aged 14 I cannot find
James who should be 13 I cannot find, I do pick him up again in 1871 as a boarder aged 22 living in Grieve Street, he goes on to marry Bridget Hoggan. ( In a previous post everyone helped sort this family out for me).  I can only find a birth for the year 1840, which does not tie in with his death certificate in 1940 which gives his age as 97, but all the other details fit.

Any help would be most gratefully received on the where the missing children are and especially sorting out Robert Brown Wilson b 1835 and Brown Wilson b 1845, if they are the same people why would they be on the same census with different names and dates of birth.

Regards
Moo

Is there an 1841 census with Robert the elder son on? **

Without seeing the original it's hard to say if the name has been transcribed correctly.
Or this Robert may have died and the younger Brown added his name to his.

Are there baptisms for the children to check them off?

** children are down as Urlson but Robert is there age 7

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Did that first James die , no sign of him on the 1841 transcription ?

Thank you Milliepede and Ev

The Baptism I have for James is dated 18/10/1840 (giving John and Catherine Hepburn as parents), but he is aged 4 on the 1851 census  ???, but following through he does tie in with marriage certificate dated July 1871 and death entry January 1940.

I didn't have the 1841 census, so I shall try to find the missing children again.
I think I had better look for death of the 1840 James and a birth again for James born 1847

PS just re checked marriage for parents and it was in Troqueer

Going by the names of their children it does look likely that Martha Wilson married Christopher Donald.

https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bfather_givenname%3Achristopher~%20%2Bfather_surname%3Adonald~%20%2Bmother_givenname%3Amartha~%20%2Bmother_surname%3Awilson~

Death Martha Wilson 1865 , age 34 , Dumfemline Fife , mother's maiden name Hepburn.
(Other surname is Donaldson)

Possible death for Christopher Donald , age 43 , 1872 Dunfermline Fife.

Have you looked at the 1861 Census for William Wilson age 15(born Dunfermline) in Strathmiglo Fife ?

Not sure if he is yours but there is a death for a William Wilson , age 16 , 1862 Strathmiglo Fife , mother's maiden name Hepburn  :-\
