No name on cap
« on: Sunday 19 November 17 16:01 GMT (UK) »
This was my dad at HMS Duke 1943 Malvern Training Base and I wondered why there is no name on the front of his cap.  Was this usual ?

I think the name of the ship was missing as a security measure.

Hi, I'm not sure, but did they just have "HMS" on the cap tally?

My Father was attached to a training in WW2 but he still had the name on his hatband...I wondered if it was just too far back on his head to see it.

Yes, that could be a possibility too.  It doesn't look like an official photo and if it wasn't it could be why his cap isn't on properly.  He sent the photo to my nan.

Yes it is there - if you look closely at his left side you can seen the bow of the cap tally above his left ear.  It's the angle of dangle as Carol (didn't) say.

And yes HMS, no ship's name, was on tallies during the war.
