There are 9 birth/baptisms for John Dewar listed on Scotland's People and a similar number of marriages to a Mary.

Do you have any other information on them such as their children's names etc.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

I was hoping admin could redirect this to Lanark.  They had a son William born in 1849 a daughter ellen born in 1846 and a son George born in 1843.  The Mother Mary's Tombstone has Mary R. Dewar.  I have since found baptismal records for Carluke Lanark Scotland for George and William with the right years and the mother is Mary Russel/l with father John Dewar.  The US Census has that they immigrated in 1849. and lists the three oldest children as born in Scotland.  I am looking for confirmation I have the right family so I can try to find John and Mary's parents.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What was Johns occupation there are 5 John Dewars of the right age in Lanark in the 1841 census Also if they followed the Scottish naming pattern John's father could be George and Mary's parents could be William and Ellen but not all families did this

This might confirm above replies?

The marriage is on SP but no suitable births.

DEWAR       JOHN      MARY RUSSEL       22/09/1843         Carluke

There is however a family in Carluke on the 1841 census which might be worth a look.

Mount Stewart,  Carluke all born Lanarkshire, remember ages rounded down
One tree on Ancestry has John Dewar born on the date you state parents George & Mary Gold but no record for John on SP.

George Dewar 40 a Mason
Mary Dewar    35
Geter Dewar    20
John Dewar    15
George Dewar    15
James Dewar    12
Robert Dewar    10
Lilias Dewar    16

Plus?
Margret Deway    2
Mary Dewan    8 Months

No Mary Russell in Carluke but not too far away.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Adult ages were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 0 or 5 so 43 w0uld be 40 and 48 would be 45 but this didn't always happen
Also found a marriage of a Peter Dewar to a Lilias Russell in Carluke

and James Dewar married a Margaret Henderson also Carluke they had a daughter Mary Gold Dewar
