He is listed as from Chester Cheshire.

He is on census as mariner aged 50  in 1841
with wife Mary  aged 45
And children James .15
Jane 20
Margaret age 10 my ancestor

Sarah age 5

Parish of St Oswald's great brought on

By 1851 he is a master mariner same parish

My 2nd great grandmother Margaret married George Smith in 1850 in liverpool
And lived in Birkenhead. Til her death in 1877

But I don't know where her parents James and Mary Yates lived or died after 1851

I haven't found her siblings James and Jane either

There is a Chelsea pensioner record for James Yates age 40 in 1831

it's on Fold so I can't see original

Were sailors included in Chelsea pensioner records ?

Thanks so much solid rock

I had  1875 as death date for James Yates from a relatives tree but couldn't find a record .
Or the correct James in 1861 or 1871 census

Where did you find those  baptisms ?

I.ll look into the Congleton death possibilities.

No - Chelsea pensions were for the Army. Royal Naval pensions were through Greenwich but even then I suspect a Master Mariner would be nothing to do with the Royal Navy.
