WATERHOUSE or MILLINGTON/
« on: Tuesday 21 November 17 12:59 GMT (UK) »
Help this is strange ???
Sarah Ann WATERHOUSE was married 9 July 1854 in Dudley to william LEWIS she was a spinster and gave her father as James MILLINGTON

Sarah LEWIS is 29 from Holly Hall in 1861, 40 from Oldbury in 1871 and a widow aged 49 from Oldbury in 1881

I have not found her before the marriage
Can anyone suggest what was going on with the names and where she was in 1841 and 1851 please

(I notice a thread back in 2010  about a confused name between Millington,STAN(D)LEY and Townsend fron Sedgley which place is strongly connected to the lewis family there are also family connections with two Stan(d)ley girls from Sedgley whosuddenly appear on the 1861 census with no trace before!)

Hi
Just a thought ,there is a James Millington marrying an Elizabeth Waterhouse at Handsworth st Mary  2 Nov 1835.She was a widow and he a bachelor.
witnesses John Millington and Ann Port.#

There is also a Sarah Ann Waterhouse d of Samuel and Elizabeth baptised at Tipton St Martins 12 Feb 1832.They were from Oldbury and he was a miner.

So could the widowed Elizabeth Waterhouse be her mother remarrying?

There is a burial fro a Samuel Waterhouse at Oldbury Wesleyian chapel age 22 15th April 1832 son of Andrew and Elizabeth Waterhouse.
The chapel includes parents for a 71 year old further up the page so his parents are no indication that he was unmarried.

(He was Baptised  at Christ Church Oldbury 20.11.1808. Samuel s of Andrew and Elizabeth Waterhouse.)

It looks like he recently married at Handsworth 1.8.1831 to Elizabeth Rubery
wit Elizabeth Waterhouse and Joseph Rubery.

So it looks like Elizabeth went home to Handsworth after her husband died.

Sarah Millington age 18 servant Staffordshire  Tean/Tipton is at Stone on the 1851 but no sign of the family in 1841.
James and Elizabeth are at West Bromwich age 40 1851 with the rest of their family but no sign of Sarah because presumably she's the one at Stone.

What do you think?

Joseph Lewis m Sarah Stanley 07 Apr 1806 Kingswinford, (from Family Search no other information)
tthere are children baptised in Sedgley 1808-1834 Joseph and sarah are on the 1861 census alone both are 75 and both are dealers in Sand
Where were they in 1851 if I can find them it will give me a better indication of their DoBs
Their son John born 1822 married Mary Stanley in Kingswinford in 1842
from Family Search
Name    John Lewis
Birthplace    Of Shutt End
Spouse's Name    Mary Hanley
Spouse's Birthplace    Of Shutt End
Event Date    26 Dec 1842
Event Place    Kingswinford, Stafford, England
Father's Name    Joseph Lewis
there is no father's name for the bride shown
Note GRO gives mother as Standley for the children and free BMD gives Stanley for the marriage.
THey are lodgers on the 1851 census    He was 27 A metal Dealer from Sedgley she was 26 also from Sedgleythey had three children born in Sedgley with them In 1861 they are in Birmingham RG 9/ 2186 fo65 p16 He is 40 she 29 both metal dealers with 5 children all from Upper Gornal
But where were they before the marriage? Again a second census could help pin point her age more accurately and place of birth
I can not find either of Stan(d)ley weomen baptised on Free REG
I would be glad of some help if possible please

Hi
This may be Mary in 1841
Hermit Road Sedgley
Mary Stanley /Hanley 50 dealer in sand y
Sarah A 21 y
Hannah 19 y
Mary 17 y
Elizabeth 16 y
Jane 14 y

Indexed as Standly on FindMyPast.
There seems to be a Richard and Mary Stanley baptising children in Sedgley - Sarah 29.6.1819,Hannah 8.8.1821, Eliza 14.2.1826  and Jane 23.4.1829 but no sign of a Mary .
Also john 5 Dec 1824,Richard 26 Dec 1832 of Upper Gornal labourer,(Eliza's nailer) or on Richard's retailer.
So Mary would fit into the family.

Richard married Mary Hickmans 3.11.1816 at Sedgley.

It looks like Jane married a Thomas Lewis s of  Joseph at Sedgley 30.11.1851 so it could well be two sisters marrying two brothers.
